The so called „English football case“, concerned an ISK 500 million fined imposed on Síminn by the Competition Authority, due to Síminn‘s sale of subscriptions for the English Premier League. The competition appeals committee had previously partially annulled the Competition Authority‘s decision, and lowered the fine to ISK 200 million.
The District Court accepted Síminn‘s argumentation, and upheld its claims in full. The Icelandic State was thus ordered to repay the 200 million fine paid by Síminn, in addition to penalty interests and legal fees.
Halldór Brynjar Halldórsson represented Síminn in the proceedings.
